Artist Notes
It is delusional to think you can raise a good child by swaddling them with violence. Violence applied to children under any guise, be it discipline or punishment, is still violence. It's awful how such violent experiences can make children think in the most cruel vengeful ways, but the worse result is the moral passivity that is instilled when a child learns to do the right thing not by reason, logic or thought, which are prerequisites for any true moral desire. I suspect these children grow up to be the adults in our society who act morally only when they face the threat of violent punishment, or its theological counterpart, eternal damnation. The culture of corporal punishment is a machine that weaves the illusion of a moral "civilized" society with the thread (threat) of violence, and a needle of power disguised as discipline.
